******This mid level will travel between the Northwest Region sites and the North Region*********

Medical Screenings and Assessments: Assess the health status of NM workforce by performing a medical history, physical examination and psychosocial assessment.  Conducts comprehensive assessments, including pre-hire screenings and annual assessments, as needed. Fit-For-Duty/Return to Work Clearances: Assess the ability of an employee to return to work or continue to work by performing a medical history/exam.  Must maintain high level of confidentiality and professionalism. Injury Care and Follow-Up- Evaluates and treats individuals for possible work related injuries and illnesses, including exposures to communicable diseases and musculoskeletal trauma such as sprains and fractures.  Provide timely follow-up and referrals to specialists, as needed. Specialized Assessments- evaluate and develop specialized assessments (eg: hazardous drug monitoring) as needed and in collaboration with supervising physician. Clinical Documentation- documents all assessments in the individual’s electronic medical record, as appropriate.  Ensures that all documentation is clear, complete and legible.  Maintains confidentiality at all times.  Understands and upholds the protocols and procedures for release of medical information. Ordering of Procedures:  Based on assessments, order appropriate laboratory tests, x-rays, EKGs and diagnostic procedures.  Perform follow-up as appropriate. Write Prescriptions and Orders: Write prescription and provider order under jointly developed protocols and practice guidelines. Collaboration: Collaborates with supervising physician on providing effective medical treatment and case management to the NM workforce.  Partners with Human Resources, Infection Prevention, and nursing regarding health and safety compliance, fit-for-duty evaluations, and workplace illnesses, injuries, and exposures. Facilitates Communication: Facilitates communication between the treating individual and the inter-disciplinary team within Occupational Health.  Fosters positive relationships with all levels of the organization.  Coordinates services related to occupational health requirements.  Initiates consultations for individuals with specialists or for special procedures. Invasive Procedures: Performs specific invasive procedures, within the scope of advanced practice nursing, under the guidance of an attending physician (after undergoing approved training).  On an annual basis demonstrates competency and is performing invasive procedures, as applicable. Evaluation of Care: Evaluate the quality of care provided and identify opportunities for improvements in patient care and clinical operations.  Determine how to incorporate new advances into the Occupational health division.  Participate in process improvement projects. Professional Growth: Communicates advances in the nursing practice. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops to address identified weaknesses.  Where beneficial, participates in professional societies. Additional Functions: Maintaining high degree of confidentiality with employee and/or patient information. Keeps current on legislation, regulatory changes, code changes, maintains knowledge of current and emerging issues and trends in areas of specialty. Sensitive to time and budget constraints. Required: Masters degree from an accredited school/college of nursing. Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Registered Professional Nurse Licensure by the State of Illinois. Advanced Practice Nurse licensure by the State of Illinois. Collaborative agreement with organization’s physician(s). Certification in Basic CPR. Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center required (if applicable). Mid-level practitioner and DEA certificate required if delegated prescriptive authority for controlled substances. Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, physicians, management, staff and other customers. Demonstrated customer service skills, including the ability to use appropriate judgment, independent thinking and creativity when resolving customer issues. Ability to effectively handle challenging situations. Ability to balance multiple priorities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to use computers and become familiar with software applications related to Occupational Health electronic medical record. Ability to analyze data for decision making purposes. Ability to adapt to changes in work environment, delays or unexpected events. Demonstrates attention to detail and monitors own work for accuracy. Confidence and ability to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal injuries. Preferred: Comfortable suturing simple lacerations and performing simple eye examinations including foreign body removals. Confidence in ability to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal injuries and illnesses. COHN certification. Minimum of 2 years of Occupational Health, Emergency Department or Urgent Care experience.
