Following a comprehensive training program specific to Marianjoy and demonstration of proficiency, the Rehabilitation Technician's role is to assist licensed therapy practitioners in the delivery of rehabilitation services. The Rehabilitation Technician delivers treatment or components of treatment that are specifically directed, planned, designed, delegated, and supervised by the licensed therapist. The Rehabilitation Technician may function only with continuous on-site supervision of a licensed therapist or licensed therapist assistant in the immediate area. The involvement of the therapist or therapist assistant is required in the appropriate aspects of each treatment session in which a component of treatment is delegated to a rehabilitation technician. Therapist directed support services are limited to tasks, which may include methods and techniques, which do not require clinical decision making of the therapist or the clinical problem solving of the therapy assistant.
Direct Treatment Activities:
A.Obtains necessary information from the licensed professional: the patients condition (diagnosis, capabilities, impairments, and functional limitations) prior to initialing any treatment or component thereof.
B.Promptly identifies and communicates patient concerns to the licensed therapist.
C.Responsible for preparing treatment areas, positioning patients, procuring equipment, transporting, and in general assisting patients, therapist, and assistants in the successful completion of treatment plan.
D.Provides non-interpretive, therapeutic exercise, mobility skills, and wheelchair skills under the supervision of the licensed physical therapy practitioner.
E.Supervises patients when utilizing UE ergometer, pulleys, exercise bike, NUSTEP, Treadmill, Kinetron, Versatrainer, and/or Saratoga.
F.Assists with the set-up and provision of hot and cold packs, whirlpool, and therapeutic pool.
G.Assists with the serial casting.
H.Assists the licensed therapy practitioners with transfers, tilt table, standing frame, standing, ambulation, activities of daily living, and toileting, as needed.
I.Assists with group programs under the direction of the licensed therapy practitioner (gait, functional mobility, therapeutic exercise, and others as needed).
J.Communicates with all patients at a level relative to the patient’s cultural background, developmental age, cognitive, and language status.
K.Adheres to medical/safety precautions at all times.
L.Responds appropriately to all medical emergency and /or urgent situations.
M.Rooms day treatment pediatric patients in the clinic; completes ambulatory summary and vital signs for MD.
Indirect Patient Care Activities:
A.Maintains treatment area in a clean and orderly fashion, including cleaning mats and equipment and pediatric toys.
B.Fabricates adaptive equipment per therapists’ direction.
C.Maintains a stock of supplies in the treatment area.
D.Assist with ordering equipment, office supplies, obtaining equipment from Central Supply and stocking forms (home programs, progress notes, exercise programs, etc.)
E.Assists with the maintenance of patient files, including filling patient records.
F.Assists with clerical duties as delegated, including copying and faxing of documents.
G.Provides orientation to the day treatment program to pediatric patients.
H.Provides maintenance to the crash cart in Pediatrics and completes safety checks on other equipment as designated.
I.Assists in transportation of patients to and from therapies.
J.Participates in performance improvement and supports program development activities.
K.Adheres to Marianjoy and/or Host Facility standards, guidelines, policies and procedures.L.Performs other duties as assigned to support to overall effectiveness of the
High School Diploma or equivalent
Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
Basic proficiency with a computer keyboard is required.
