Maintain current knowledge of IRS tax regulations and serve as a team leader for tax-related issues and fielding tax-related questions. Manage the NMHC relationship with external tax advisors who sign as paid preparers for certain NMHC tax filings. Review and approve tax reporting requirements with the IRS (Form 990s, 1120s, 990-Ts, etc.) Review and approve State and local tax reporting (Forms AG990-IL, IL-990-T, IL-1120, sales and use tax, Cook County taxes, etc.) Maintain documentation of tax positions for NMHC in accordance with Accounting Standards Codification 740-10. Serve as the main Finance contact for NMHC legal department and the NMHC Community Services department as they prepare reporting for the Illinois Attorney General and the Illinois Department of Revenue. Coordination with external firm for filing of unclaimed property reports with the relevant agencies. Meet departmental objectives by overseeing completion of the full range of department assignments. Establish department goals, forecast requirements, prepare an annual budget, schedule expenditures, analyze variances, and initiate appropriate corrective actions. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends as needed. Maintain quality service standards as well as analyzing and resolving quality and customer service problems, identifying trends, and recommending and implementing system improvements. Research and understand changes in the regulatory environment in order to determine appropriate treatment as needed. Demonstrates knowledge in computer applications such as knowledge in databases, spreadsheets and word processing applications in a high complexity environment. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, adopting and implementing industry best practices, and participating in professional societies. Protect operations by keeping financial and patient information confidential. Support the Northwestern Medicine finance operation as an integrated team leader. AA/EOE.

Required: Bachelor degree in Accounting or related field, 5+ years progressive relevant experience in tax, CPA Certification or equivalent tax law background, Excellent communication, analytical and collaboration skills, High level of precision and attention to detail, Ability to summarize complex issues into key elements, Leadership and flexibility managing relationships in large corporate environment, Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Preferred: Master of Science in Taxation, JD with an emphasis in tax, Experience in PeopleSoft general ledger, Experience in a non-profit organization, Experience in a healthcare organization.
